Alison, MICRONAIL™ Distal Radius Fixation Recipient
Alison has been a registered nurse for more than 25 years and has seen her fair share of orthopaedic surgeries. However, when she fractured her wrist in August 2006, she was completely unaware of the latest treatment modality for wrist fractures.
Alison was weeding her garden in the front yard when she lost her footing and fell. To break her fall she put out her right hand – and fractured her wrist.
Initially, the doctors in the emergency room put a cast on Alison’s wrist, but at her follow-up visit, the doctor noticed the fracture was not healing properly. The doctors determined that she would likely not regain a full use of her wrist. Alison was referred to Dr. Brumfield, who suggested she be treated with the MICRONAIL™ Distal Radius Fixation System.
Since Alison had been struggling with a cast for a week which wouldn’t allow her to bathe normally or hold her granddaughter, she was ready for an alternative. Alison underwent the surgery and said, “I am very pleased with the outcome.” Alison says she experienced very little pain and a very fast recovery. Dr. Brumfield told Alison she could begin resuming normal activities as she felt comfortable and, within a month, Alison was back to helping her husband with the yard work and working around the house.
